June Open Meeting: Sustainable Funds for Small Biz

June 14, 2022 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

Virtual Meeting

June 14, 2022 Sustainable Funds for Small Biz - SEED NM

Our June 14 Open Meeting will have a “fund” focus, with two money-related topics on our agenda:

  1. Sustainable Funds for Small Business: How a Public Bank Could Benefit New Mexico’s Economy
    • Angela Merkert of the Alliance For Local Economic Prosperity will describe her organization’s efforts to create a public bank in New Mexico, and explain how a public bank differs from commercial banks and credit unions. We’ll discuss the funding landscape for small businesses in NM and how not all sources of funds are equal when it comes to supporting sustainable economic development.
  2. The Permanent School Fund Ballot Question: Why should small businesses care about NM’s public schools?
    • We’ll discuss what the Permanent School Fund ballot question is, and how its passage could affect economic development in New Mexico. Come with your questions about the ballot question and ideas for how the public school system in NM could better align with healthy local economies.

SEED NM hosts Open Meetings on 2nd Tuesdays, to engage with business communities in New Mexico to advance our goals of building a sustainable, equitable economy in our state.

Please join us and share your ideas, energy and input on how to steer our economy towards a sustainable future! We welcome input and discussion from the wider community, including those who are new to the world of economic development policy. There is no minimum experience or knowledge level required.
